Cheese & Apple Festival

The 2nd Annual Cheese and Apple Festival at Midtown Global Market will take place Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Visitors can sample, take home recipes, and learn about how these fresh, local foods work together. MGM restaurants will also offer specials on cheese and apple foods throughout the day.
There will also be an apple and cheese recipe bake-off, judged by local celebrities. The top 10 most unique recipes submitted by the public will be prepared by the professional caterers from the Market's Kitchen in the Market. Those that submit the top three vote-getting recipes will receive Midtown Global Market gift certificates.
Celebrity judges scheduled to appear are:
- Minneapolis City Council Member Robert Lilligren
- KSTP 11 p.m. weekday anchor Chris O'Connell
- Minneapolis City Council Member Gary Schiff
- KMSP weekend reporter Todd Walker
- WCCO-AM and Minnesota Monthly's Sue Zelickson
In addition to the recipe contest, there will be cooking demonstrations throughout the day, including a "Best Practices and Procedures on Canning" demonstration by Hoch Orchard, and an Apple/Gouda turnover demonstration by Kitchen in the Market's Molly Herrmann.
Additional activities include:
- Live readings of the classic children's book, The Stinky Cheese Man
- Apple croquet
- Apple stamping
- Screenings of the movie FRESH, a documentary that "celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system."
This event is free and open to the public.
